Food Quality Control: How to get started with NIR technology
If you work in the quality department of a food company, you’ll be familiar with this situation: you send a product out for analysis to a laboratory, when the external results arrive, if a problem has been detected, the product has probably already been manufactured - or even left the factory.
In that case, it must be recalled from the market, and we don’t need to explain what that may involve for your company…
You probably also know that this isn’t a problem which is becoming rarer. Increasingly, economically motivated fraud is an issue for the food industry. Adulterants are changing and traditional testing methods only look for certain markers which fraudsters will certainly look to fool.Think of the melamine scandal or ‘horsegate’...
But technology is revolutionizing quality control as it has done many other are a sof our industry.
Traditional processes that consist of taking random samples of raw materials and sending them to an external laboratory cost a lot of money and time and are not alwayseffective. But digital analysis techniques provide a robust and instant analysis of products, which can detect any food fraud, monitor supplier consistency, and much more.
Traditional quality control vs in-house quality control using near infrared technology (NIR). What’s the difference?
· Traditional quality control cannot be applied to all incoming raw materials and outgoing products. Production failures and non-conformitiesmay often be undetected in blind spots.
· A NIR approach makes possible to obtain a quick and simple analysis of all kind of food samples -liquid, solid, powder or gel- avoiding human error.
· NIR tools canidentify the composition and conformity of food products and ingredients with respect to previous samples. That means you can ensure homogeneity, traceability and quality… in just a few seconds!
Are you finding this interesting? We give you the keys to start implementing this technology without investment or specialized personnel
Starting to use NIR is very simple thanks to Chemometric Brain's software.
We have designed our software with flexibility in mind, to meet your needs whatever point you are in; whether or not you already have NIR equipment, whether you want to access models from the global product library available, you want us to build custom models for you, or you want to use our tool to build your own models.
From traditional food quality control to digitalization with NIR. Are you ready?
Get started using the technology without the need for large investment. This is a great way to ensure you are investing into theright technology and devices once the time comes.
1. Need hardware?
No. Just send us your samples and we will sample foryou on our NIR instruments.
2. How can I use your software?
To start testing the technology you will just need to acquire 1 validation license to deploy the software, validate samples and centralize data. Fast, cheap and effective.
3. How can I compare samples with previous ones if I haven ever used NIR before?
Just in few seconds using your validation license you will be able to access both qualitative models or quantitative calibrations for your target products, as well as to validate any new sample you have received or manufactured in your facilities.
4. Can I start NOW?
We have models ready to be used from day one ford airy, bakery, meat and spices industries.
5. How many quality models do I need to start analyzing samples?
As many as products you want to test. We recommend starting with 8-10 models for those raw materials that are of high concern or high value, so you can quickly get value from the technology. You can either get access to existing models from which you will get the added benefit of comparing suppliers, or we can build custom models for you.
Once you have tested and validated the technology, you will be ready to invest into your own hardware and create your own models for a complete digitalization and in-house management of your quality control.
